Nurture app: interactive teacher resources
Lesson planning, a competency-based assessment bank, classroom resources and reflection prompts, on web and mobile, so a teacher preparing a chapter has everything in one place.
What is Nurture?
We at S2S believe that a joyfully challenging classroom is prepared before the bell, and that a teacher's preparation time deserves the same support as the lesson itself. We acknowledge the time constraints of teachers and the support they need to bring a constructivist, student-centred experience into their classrooms, within their regular working hours.
Nurture is our teacher support app, on web and mobile. It contains four things: interactive classroom presentations (PPTs) that a teacher can use in class as they are; complete teacher resources for each chapter; the competency-based assessment question bank; and a materials list for every activity, so that what the lesson needs can be planned and collected in advance. It also gives each teacher a place to record what happened in the room.
Why Nurture?
A teacher's resources usually live in several places: a shared drive, a WhatsApp group, a printed handbook from two years ago, a colleague's laptop. Nurture puts them where the teacher already is, on a phone or laptop the evening before a chapter, so that preparation happens before the fortnightly mentoring meeting and the meeting can build on it.
It also carries the mentoring between meetings. The reflection a teacher records after a class is what the next fortnightly conversation is built on, so the app is a record of what your own teachers have tried, as well as a resource library.
How it works
The app is organised around four things a teacher does with a chapter.
Aligning learning outcomes
The attitudes, skills and knowledge each chapter is meant to build, across subjects, mapped to NEP and beyond it.
Assessment strategies
How to find out whether it landed: formative, summative, and assessment that is not pen and paper, drawn from the competency-based assessment question bank, along with the misconceptions to watch for.
Classroom implementation
Probing questions, classroom plans and the complete teacher resources for the chapter, the interactive classroom presentations (PPTs) and videos, and the materials list for each activity.
Review and feedback
Reflection prompts, and a place for teachers to upload what happened in the room.
