Learn2Learn: Comprehensive School Partnership Program

Our signature program. A customised, multi-year partnership that works with multiple stakeholders in the school, leadership, teachers, students and parents, and brings curriculum, assessment, teacher mentoring, and leadership and culture work together for whole-school transformation.

What is Learn2Learn?

We at S2S believe that the key role of schooling is to provide a conducive environment in which every child constructs their own knowledge. Learning is most effective when students become active knowledge creators instead of passive knowledge consumers. Our goal is to inspire students to be independent thinkers and learners.

Learn2Learn is our customised, year-on-year program for doing this across a whole school. We help teachers bring active, inquiry- and discovery-based learning into their classrooms while teaching their prescribed syllabus within their regular schedule, in line with the National Education Policy 2020.

Everything else on our offerings page can be taken on its own. Learn2Learn is several parts of it taken together, with the assessment and leadership work included, for schools that resonate with this philosophy and want the whole of it. Most schools that stay with us end up here.

Why Learn2Learn?

We acknowledge the time constraints of teachers and the support they need to bring a constructivist, student-centric experience into their classrooms. A workshop on its own rarely changes what happens the following week; what does is someone alongside the teacher, every fortnight, who has already thought about the chapter they are about to teach. Through Learn2Learn we engage with everyone involved in a child's learning and work on every aspect of classroom implementation, so that it happens smoothly and lasts.

The aim is to make the teaching and learning experiences of teachers and students more meaningful, joyful and enriching.

How it works

Learn2Learn brings together four pillars, each with its own page: curriculum, assessment, teacher mentoring, and leadership and culture.

In the classroom, the program runs as a repeating cycle, one chapter at a time, through the year.

  1. Before the class

A Dialogue on Learning session where teachers do the experiment or the maths themselves first, then discuss how children are likely to go wrong in it.

  2. In the class

Teachers run it. Our facilitators sit in, and co-facilitate where it helps.

  3. After the class

A reflection conversation about what happened in the room, and what to try next.

  4. Next

An action plan for the following chapter, and the assessment that goes with it.

The year opens with an intense orientation phase: where the whole cycle is experienced once and the year is planned. It is combined with a goal setting cum action plan session with management, teachers and coordinators on the role each plays in the learning process. After that comes the guided phase, carried by the fortnightly rhythm of teachers' circles, mentoring meetings and classroom visits, in which the program gradually becomes teacher-driven.

Over the years we hope to develop not just conceptual understanding among students but their higher-order skills too. That asks for an attitudinal change among teachers and schools, which is a gradual process that succeeds only with the whole-hearted dedication of everyone involved. So we suggest a school runs Learn2Learn for at least three to four consecutive years. Our aim is not only to assist teachers but gradually to empower them to design and independently implement their own topics in the constructivist pedagogy, with a pool of mentor teachers who can carry it without us in the room.

What your school receives

Seed2Sapling provides

  • Pedagogy sessions for teachers: Dialogue on Learning, within regular working hours
  • Classroom facilitation and co-facilitation through the year
  • Fortnightly teachers' circles and grade-wise mentoring meetings
  • A curriculum-aligned module for every chapter of science and maths, with ideas and implementation strategy for selected topics
  • An exploratory kit for every student, made of simple, open-ended, everyday materials for classroom and home exploration and compatible across chapters, plus raw materials for teachers
  • Open-ended pondersheets for students with every module
  • Assistance with formative and summative assessments, question paper review and the competency-based question bank
  • Leadership sessions, quarterly reviews and an end-of-year report, as the partnership deepens
  • Research and development behind every component

The school provides

  • Teacher names and emails at the start of term
  • An annual meeting schedule, with 48 hours' notice for any change
  • Timetables a week before each visit, and question papers two to three weeks before the test
  • Preferably a block of two periods a week each for science and maths for the exploratory activities, and a fortnightly period per teacher for the teachers' circle
  • Commitment from management: a combined session at the start, and one or two sessions with teachers during the year to discuss progress, scope and the utility of the program
  • Books and kits alongside, rather than on their own

Three depths

Schools take Learn2Learn at one of three depths, and each one includes everything in the one before it. It is scoped to your teacher numbers and grade bands.

Induction

Orienting teachers

The school meets the pedagogy for the first time. Teachers experience it in Dialogue on Learning sessions and carry it into their own classrooms with the Nurture app resources and a few days of facilitation, while a baseline and endline shows where students began and ended the year.

Foundation

Conceptual depth and pedagogical mentoring

The fortnightly rhythm begins. Every chapter is discussed before it is taught, our facilitators are in classrooms through the year with a reflection conversation after each visit, and the mentoring starts from where each teacher is. Leadership sees a quarterly progress review.

Deepening

Visioning, culture and assessment depth

Competency-based assessment is built into the school's own formative and summative cycle, with question papers co-designed with teachers. Leadership joins through visioning, goal setting and role mapping, and impact is tracked against targets set together, with a written end-of-year report.

Putting it in place

Learn2Learn is taken per subject, so a school can start with Maths and Science and add subjects later, or start with one grade band. How much of it a school takes on in a given year, and for how many teachers and grades, is scoped together with the school and set out in the proposal. Most schools begin with the curriculum and teacher mentoring work. From year two we deepen it: assessment inside your own cycle, and the approach settled into school culture.

Where a school wants to see how this feels before committing, Dialogue on Learning workshops, student clubs and Ponderbooks are the usual first steps, and each of them becomes part of Learn2Learn when the school is ready.

We measure the same dimensions on both sides of the classroom. When a teacher starts asking more and telling less, it builds learners' competencies.

"Before taking an activity to a child, the team took us through it ourselves, from step one."
Science educators, The Heritage School, Vasant Kunj, Delhi

"I am learning every day from the children as they share their observations with great enthusiasm. They have become curious and inquisitive learners, and I have become a more patient listener and encouraging guide."

Dimple Rebello Brito, Teacher, Vidyaniketan School

"I could see students interacting and coming out with their views freely. They develop the attitude of how and why things happen that way. Students' responses were stunning and overall it was a great learning experience for teachers and students."

Mrs. Chitra B., Math teacher, Kendriya Vidyalaya IISc

"The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery. Students discover the concepts while performing the activities. Students are eager to face new challenges in activities. Students develop creative thinking and collaborative skills while performing the activities."

Mrs. Gayathri Bhaskar, Science teacher, MLA School, Malleshwaram, Bangalore
