Rethinking Assessment Through a Competency Lens ( 15th May 2026 )
Rethinking Assessment Through a Competency Lens (15th May 2026)

Too often, assessment design becomes a conversation about whether a question is too hard or too easy, but we spend less time asking what the question actually tells us about student capacities and understanding.
Are competency-based questions only the “difficult” ones, or can they exist at different levels of complexity? Do they have to be long and subjective, or can even objective questions be designed to reveal reasoning and misconceptions? What actually makes a question competency-based: its format, its difficulty, or the kind of thinking it invites?
In this webinar, we will explore how a competency-based lens shifts assessment from checking recall to examining reasoning, connections, and application. Join us to try out simple design strategies during the session, reworking familiar question types to design assessments that are rigorous yet joyfully challenging, and that reveal student thinking and understanding.
